Cardano has been around for many years.ADA( ) is a crypto-element that has consistently ranked among the most valuable digital assets based on market capitalization. Despite its importance, ADA’s poor performance has led many to question its long-term prospects.

While it recently made headlines for being included in US President Donald Trump’s initial proposal for a national crypto stockpile, its price action and onchain activity tell a different story — one that has even led some critics to brand it a “zombie.”

Recent studies suggest that Cardano’s ecosystem, which is based on ADA (the Cardano Network), lags behind significantly when it comes to decentralized financial adoption. Cardano is struggling to gain liquidity, as it has only a small fraction of its total value (TVL), compared to Ethereum and Solana.

Despite some arguing that DeFi is only in the early stages of development, newer blockchains outperform it on user engagement as well as trading volume. Now the question is whether future developments will reverse this trend.

With key catalysts in the horizon such as a potential ADA ETF, and its emerging role within Bitcoin’s DeFi Ecosystem, 2025 may be a pivotal time for ADA. These developments may be able to reverse the trend, but will they?
