In two weeks I was at the Democratic National Convention. My main reason for attending was to promote impartiality with our political coverage at Bitcoin Magazine, particularly as it related to election results and Bitcoin. We received an invitation to the Republican National Convention last-minute after David Bailey began coordinating with the Trump campaign prior to his July speech at Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville.

The fact that so many people from this company take a one-sided position with Republicans is disturbing, even though in reality more Republican politicians than Democrats support Bitcoin. Even the Republican Party formally integrated Bitcoin in their public policy platforms at its convention. Democrats are not.

It isn’t true that all Democrats are against Bitcoin. On the national stage, Representative Ro Khanna, from California, Ritchie Torress, from New York and Senator Kirsten Giligrand, also from New York are vocal Bitcoin supporters in Congress. They are there, and they’re vocal. But they don’t seem to resonate with their party, or the voting base, as much as they did in the Republican Party.

Bitcoin wasn’t mentioned once during the first day I was there. The RNC didn’t make Bitcoin a major topic, but the RNC did mention it. This was in the policy platform of both parties. At the DNC, this inclusion did not take place. On the first day, the focus was the election to come. Kamala against Trump.

The discussion was more rhetorical than policy-oriented. The discussion was mainly rhetorical and revolved around general issues affecting Democratic voters. It also included the usual rah rah language that one might expect from an event focusing on the selection of candidates for the Democrat Party this election.

Although no specific policies were mentioned, many issues of importance to Democrats were. Women’s rights and well-paying jobs, union security and minorities inclusion were all discussed.

During the first day of the convention, a number of unions spoke, either live or via recorded message. These included the Arizona Pipefitters and Pumbers Union, Communications Workers of America Union, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the American Federation of State, County, and Munipical Employees. The union leaders had many things to say regarding the loss of jobs due to Covid as well as the re-employment of workers under the Biden administration. Pension funds for unions was another big concern. Not just the base salary, but also the pension and benefits are the main reasons why union jobs tend to be sought after.

Are there any things that stand out? Perhaps the fact that Bitcoin can actually synergize with these Democratic goals and advance them?

Bitcoin is a great way to help those who are struggling economically. People who have held bitcoin for a long period of time, despite the current aberration in the market cycle, will benefit from an increase in purchasing power. It is obvious that it takes money in order to earn money. People who begin with less are likely to see a smaller appreciation. However, those with the money in hand have always had the ability to buy more over time. The people who are poor will not benefit as much from this as those who have a surplus of funds to invest. However, it is still helpful.

Bitcoins can help women maintain access to health care that has been increasingly banned in some parts of the US. The financial institutions are increasingly censoring transactions that they deem culturally problematic, regardless of their legal status. It is not true that only those who are on the “right” side of politics will be affected by this. Bitcoin can be used as an alternative for traditional financial institutions. The fact that bitcoin can work for even services that have been deemed as illegal should be obvious.

Recent years have seen pension funds in Canada start to take a conservative approach to bitcoin. This, when compared to the historical performance of the currency over the course of time can prove to be very beneficial to the solvency problems that are faced by all Canadian pension funds.

Bitcoin could even prove to be an enormous boon for renewable energy. This is something that liberals are very concerned about, as it pertains to reducing the effects of climate change on our planet and maintaining its natural environment. Bitcoin miners enjoy a unique niche. AI operators have only started to take up a similar position as buyers of renewable energy that is stranded before being connected to grid. It allows for revenue to start as soon as these projects have been completed, instead of having to wait until they are connected to the retail energy users on the grid.

This is not to mention the open-access nature of Bitcoin and its ability to advance freedom and inclusion in the world by giving people an alternative when it comes time for them fight and resist totalitarian governments. Bitcoin’s open access nature is in line with the Democratic Party’s proclaimed values and beliefs.

Why is the Party not paying attention? What is the reason for not including it in their platform like Republicans?

This is the basis. It’s the base. American Bitcoin Survey Nakamoto Project revealed that bitcoin is a bipartisan issue, not just a right-wing phenomenon as it was perceived by most people. What is the reason for this persistent perception? Narratives. Stories. Messaging. It’s not because Democrats or liberals do not use Bitcoin, but because the larger narratives. The larger narratives have a lot to do with the lack of interest in Bitcoin by the Democratic Party. It is a perception. Bitcoin is right-wing. The Avoiding associations When a comparison is made between Bitcoins and other important topics, it comes across as being right-wing.

Democratic politicians in general will have no interest in Bitcoin, nor do they care to adopt positive policies for Bitcoiners, until these narratives change. Politicians cater to voters. In general, they do not take on new initiatives without a clear benefit to the voter. It’s all part of politics.

Demonizing politicians for their indifference or negative reactions due to the perception they are rightwing, within a polarized climate of politics will not change this. It is important to get the vote base. This is the only way to change the attitude of Democratic politicians. Left-wingers need to know that Bitcoin aligns and supports their political agendas and goals in the same manner that the wider right-wing perception is propagated.

This will be a tough battle, given all the past baggage and perceptions that have been created. But it is the only thing we can do to combat the perception of Bitcoin as a right-wing phenomenon. Bitcoin will be forced to a left-right paradigm if there is no concerted effort made to show left leaning individuals that Bitcoin aligns with their values.
