Who is going to be the largest Ethereum holder in 2025? Not always people. Forgotten keys cause the largest wallet to be lost, but the network, via staking agreements, controls over half of the ETH.
You can read more about it here:
- In 2025 the ETH2 Deposit Contract will hold the majority of Ethereum, securing more than half the total supply.
- Users can manage billions of ETH through exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase.

Exchanges are accumulating billions of dollars on behalf users. Institutions also treat ETH more as a treasury, signaling that Ethereum has matured from a speculative investment to a useful, productive financial instrument.
Rich list for Ethereum
Not a single person is today the largest Ether holder, but rather the ETH2 Beacon Deposit Contract. This contract secures network security by locking the validator stakes. It holds over 66.8 millions ETH worth approximately $287 billion, which is more than 50% of the total coins.
Exchanges are an essential liquidity layer in the ecosystem. While staking is the main value of the system, it’s not the only one. The top 20 addresses are dominated by them, with 55%. Coinbase, with its staking and custody services, has a staggering $18 Billion in ETH. Binance is a very close second, holding nearly $12 billion in ETH. Kraken holds another $1.7 billion.
The traditional financial sector has established itself beyond the exchanges. BlackRock, the asset manager that sits at the top of all financial institutions with over 3.2 millions ETH backing its Ethereum ETF is now a leader in this field. This is a momentous validation of the institutional side.
In the meantime, corporate treasuries have evolved, mirroring Michael Saylor’s Strategy for Bitcoin but adding a yield-bearing spin. BitMine is publicly aiming for 5% of ETH’s total supply. Currently, their holdings amount to over $7.5 billion.
Individual ETH billionaires
Rain Lohmus is the largest individual holder. His 250,000 ETH pre-sale stash, which remains locked up and unaccessible for a year, represents’self-custodial indifference. With 240,000 ETH Vitalik Buterin is the biggest individual holder.
James Fickel is also included on this list, as are some notable celebrities. Justin Bieber, who has accumulated 146.5 ETH mainly from NFT sales is at the head of the list. FaZe bankers, Post Malone, Jimmy Fallon are also on the list.
It is also worth noting that the list of Ethereum’s richest people has an even darker side, namely stolen funds. Gatecoin hackers remains largest holder illicit ETH with 156.200 ETH syphoned out of a exploit in 2016. The person behind the FTX Hack holds 95,700 ETH. It is a remainder of $400 million SIM-swap attacks that were launched after the exchange collapsed.
A unique twist has seen the U.S. federal government become an unintentional whale. The U.S. government now holds 60,000 ETH that it has seized from criminals, such as Bitfinex’s hacker.
