Developers claim that Pectra is too ambitious for a single upgrade, so they plan to split it in two.
Developers decided to include eight Ethereum Improvement proposals (EIPs). EIP-7702, aimed to improve wallet user experience, will be included in the first package. Second package can be modified over the coming months with the addition of new upgrades.
“There seems to be agreements to split current Pectra somehow,” said Alex Stokes is a research associate at Ethereum Foundation. “And then downstream, we can figure out what comes next.”
“I hear everyone that, it can be tricky to not want to put new things in. I would lean towards, again, keeping the scope very small, just because then that’s going to maximize our chances of actually shipping the second fork very quickly with respect to this first one,” Stokes is added. “Generally, smaller forks are less risky.”

Developers had previously stated that they hoped to launch the upgrade in 2025. It’s possible, however, that just the first half of the Pectra update will be live by the beginning 2025. Uncertain is how long Ethereum will take to release the next part after launching the first.
