The goal of this hackathon is to make peer-to-peer payments a part of millions’ applications. Lead by Breez, Time2Build requires developers to integrate the Breez SDK — a free, open-source toolkit for self-custodial Lightning Network payments — into existing open-source projects. Project maintainers must merge submissions into production, unlike normal hackathons. This ensures a lasting impact. The projects that are eligible must be based on free software, open source (FOSS), have an active community, and provide real world services.
The challenge will run from October 7, 2025 to November 15, 2020, followed by a period of merging until December 16, 2030. On January 8, 2026, the winners will be announced. The entries will be judged by a panel that includes Jeff Booth, the author of The Price of Tomorrow and representatives of Lightspark Tether and Breez. The prizes include $7,500 in Bitcoin for the top project, $3,500 at mid-tier and $1,000 to select projects.
Over 40 developer communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and North America — from Lagos to London — are participating, hosting meetups to promote the challenge. Plan B Network partners include Fulgur Ventures Geyser Fund Draper University PlebLab.
Roy Sheinfeld, Breez CEO, stated: “There’s never been a better time to build on Bitcoin. Developers now have the tools to bring peer-to-peer money to anyone, anywhere, anytime. This finally unlocks the transfer of value, just as the internet unlocked the transfer of information. We’ve launched Time2Build to spark the next generation of open-source apps, and we can’t wait to see what they create.”.
You can also find out more about the following: Breez SDK Lightning Integrations are simplified, and protocols such as Bolt11 or LNURL Pay can be supported without requiring third party dependencies. Breez notes that this is a solution to the past complexity of Bitcoin development. It allows value transfer similar to data flow on the internet.
Kevin Hurley added that: “Lightspark is building open payments for the Internet – modern, always-on payment solutions powered by Bitcoin: the only open, neutral network for moving value. Bitcoin’s potential as a programmable, global money is finally within reach, and it’s developers who will take it the rest of the way. Time2Build is the perfect stage for builders to put that to the test. We’re proud to support this challenge and can’t wait to see new use cases unlocked across the world.”.
