The cryptocurrency sector is home to a number of bad actors, most of whom fall into the category cybercrime. The situation changed after the kidnapping and murder of a Bitcoiner aged 29 in Kyiv. Four men aged between 24 and 29, according to a recent report, killed the Bitcoiner from abroad who was visiting Kyiv.
Kyiv Police reports that the Bitcoiner faced pressure to transfer 7,000,000 Ukrainian hryvnias in Bitcoin worth at an abandoned structure. On July 29, around midnight, the attackers attacked the victim. They confirmed the planned attack. After transferring the Bitcoin, the man’s body was dumped in a nearby jungle. The police added,
“Information about the man’s abduction came to the capital’s police around midnight. Residents of a house in Solomyansk district heard screams and saw several unknown people beating and forcibly putting a man in a car.”
The prosecution intends to bring charges against those arrested. Charges for organized crime, including homicide and robbery as well as unlawful deprivation, will be filed against the arrested individuals. The suspects could also be sentenced to life in prison for the act they committed against the bitcoiner.
