One way is to use technology that’s already on the market to move Bitcoin from Earth directly to Mars. It’s just a matter of finding someone or something to accept it.

The tech entrepreneurs Jose E. Puente (left) and Carlos Puente (right), published their book, “The Future of Technology” late last month. white paper unveiling Proof-of-Transit Timestamping — a concept he told Cointelegraph is the missing piece needed to make Bitcoin interplanetary.

This concept proposes that in the future if a Bitcoin-user wants to make a payment on Mars, they could send the money through various stations such as satellites or ground antennas.

The transaction takes place at each of the stops “stamped” Before continuing to its final destination.

Puente told Cointelegraph that PoTT is the official acronym for PoT. “receipt layer” Bitcoin and Lightning Network, while using optical links created by Elon Musk’s Starlink or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

“The technology is essentially ready. The moment there’s a stable Earth–Mars link, PoTT can ride on top, making Bitcoin the first currency to operate cleanly across planets,” He said.

“By simulating Mars-level delays, we could run a convincing end-to-end demo right now.”

Puente stated that Bitcoin Lightning transfers can reach Mars within three minutes or 22 minutes in the worst case scenario.

Puente, who spoke about the Mars blackout of two weeks that happens every 26 to 30 months or so, said there could be a solution. “deliberately route around the Sun with relay satellites” Avoid the blackout.

Puente explained that PoTT timestamping is similar to Bitcoin’s normal timestamping but it extends beyond the earth and into outer space.

“Imagine it’s 2050 and you’re sending money from Earth to your friend on Mars to help pay for their rent. Because the planets are so far apart, the message has to hop through different stations.”

“At each stop, that station stamps the message with the time it arrived and the time it left, like a passport getting stamped at every border crossing. By the time the message gets to Mars, you can look at all the stamps and see the exact path it took and when it moved.”

Puente stated that PoTT can be tested as early as today.

Bitcoin has made its way to outer space

Blockstream developed the concept in December 2018 when they released it. connected Bitcoin to five satellites Bitcoins can be used to conduct transactions in outer space. Spacechain will then complete what they claim is the world’s first outer-space Bitcoin transactions in August 2020. first Bitcoin transaction Bitcoin was demonstrated from the International Space Station (BTCYou can receive a Message from Earth.

Of course, for a Bitcoin transaction to occur on Mars, a human — or an AI — would need to be there, and that hasn’t happened yet. NASA’s orbiters, rovers and landers have been the only spacecraft to explore Mars so far.

The person accepting Bitcoin would also need to exist. Blue Origin is a Jeff Bezos company. started accepting crypto — including Bitcoin, Ether (ETH), Solana (SOLStablecoins like TetherUSDTUSDC) (USDC) — last month, but so far they’ve only made it past the Kármán line, about 100 kilometers from Earth.

Musk is also in agreement that standard money will be needed.

Musk’s SpaceX has a goal to achieve Mars by the end of 2026 The long-term goal is to create a city that can sustain itself.

Musk also agrees, along with Puente that there is a need to have a standard currency for transactions between Earth and Mars. He has previously expressed concern Puente stated that Lightning Network can help to speed up block times beyond Bitcoin’s 10 minute limit.

“PoTT plus Lightning provide the practicality Musk asked for: local speed with global settlement that works across planets.”

Last January, after initially rejecting Bitcoin as an option for interplanetary payment, he finally agreed that the Lightning Network was a more viable solution.

“If we’re serious about a multi-planet civilization, we need an open, neutral monetary base that doesn’t depend on any single company, government, or ground station,” Puente argued that Bitcoin was the best interplanetary currency.

“That’s why we focused on Bitcoin as the shared standard and designed PoTT as a practical way to move value across vast distances while preserving accountability and individual agency.”

PoTT was built to work on all planets

Puente stated that PoTT has been built as a system to work across any habitable zone of a star. “travel receipts” Transactions sent to the Moon, or other planets, could generate it.

He said the research  just focused on Earth and Mars as it is the “cleanest near-time case study.”
