A few Bitcoin Core developers will be demonstrating the technology in two days on April 8, 2019. “attack blocks” Signet takes a long time to check if the design is correct.
Demonstrations will start at 10:00 AM (2:00 PM UTC). Participants can watch their Bitcoin Core node mine and process blocks in real time by running it on Signet.
You can find instructions on the website here Follow along and spin up your own node (including checking the logs of the node to verify the times).
This demonstration won’t show you the worst attack scenario (the transaction and script structure hasn’t been revealed publicly to keep malicious actors guessing). However, it will create blocks that require orders of magnitude longer to verify.
This demonstration aims to demonstrate the seriousness of one of four major consensus vulnerabilities. Great Consensus Cleanup aims to address with BIP 54.
The demonstrations are scheduled for 6 PM (UTC) and 5 AM (EST) respectively on the 8th of April. This will allow Bitcoin users from different time zones to participate.
Signet’s blockchain currently has around 32-33GB of storage, so you can spin up your Signet node if you own a device that offers enough space.
Please be aware that the software patch below was not thoroughly audited and it was only put together quickly for this demo (even though it’s just a simple terminal-based GUI). Even if you’re paranoid, it should not matter if you spin up a new Signet Node for the demonstration and don’t have any money on your machine.
AJ Towns provides a way to view logs without having to dig through them. patch You can also find out more about the “bitcoin-tui” Project, a Terminal based interface for Bitcoin Core that displays the attacks blocks during demonstration. Project creators are working to release a final version in time for demonstration. However, you can still compile this yourself.
Use these commands to run Linux.
git clone https://github.com/ajtowns/bitcoin-tui.git
Cd Bitcoin-tui
Git switch 202604 - bip54 blocks
Then you can just follow the building instructions in the repository. here. After assembling, check to see if your bitcoind has “server=1” Set in the configuration file and then start bitcoin-tui. The config file should be located in the a “Slow Blocks” The tab to the left of the top bar.
