Bitcoin Magazine sat with Lisa, co-founder of Bitcoin++ as well as the Base58 Bitcoin developer course to talk about Lisa’s work and her vision for structured educational programs in the Bitcoin world.
Lisa’s experience in the Bitcoin world has taken many forms. She is currently working on Lightning core projects part-time for Blockstream. In addition, Base58 was created to give developers of all levels a deeper understanding of Bitcoin development. Her initiative is a result of her conviction that structured training can enhance the Bitcoin community’s abilities.
“Structured education is hard, like good curriculum,” Lisa said: “The pathways someone shows you to your information landscape really matters, I think, in terms of your success.”
Learning is Fun with the Bitcoin LARP game
The Bitcoin LARP is one of Lisa’s most notable initiatives. This educational tool, which is innovative and fun to use, makes learning Bitcoin’s technical side accessible for all people. This game simplifies complex ideas into fun, interactive activities that allow participants to develop confidence and gain a better understanding of Bitcoin.
Lisa discussed her experience in facilitating Mexico’s first Bitcoin LARP, and how the event brought individuals together from many different countries. This initiative has demonstrated the power of immersive and interactive learning to demystify Bitcoin.
“The Bitcoin LARP game is a great teaching tool for experienced engineers,” She explained. “It’s super fun to see people’s faces kind of start lighting up as all the parts start building like a model in their heads and they realize, ‘Wait, I got this. This is something I can do.'”
The Mempool: A Guide to Understanding It
Lisa’s vision includes expanding Base58’s curriculum to include topics such as Taproot Lightning Network and covenants. Lisa focuses on the mempool as a critical part of Bitcoin transaction processing. She reveals the surprising and nuanced ways that mempools work through her research.
“The mempool works in surprising ways,” Lisa remarked. “There are many non-obvious aspects that can greatly impact how transactions are processed and prioritized.”
Lisa said that it is important for developers to understand how the mempool works if they want to improve transactional efficiency and fees management.
Good Curriculum: It’s Important
Lisa emphasized throughout the interview the importance and challenge of creating a curriculum. In addition to providing learners with important knowledge, a well-structured education pathway can also help them build their confidence as they navigate the technical world of Bitcoin. Base58 is a platform that allows anyone to run Bitcoin classes and foster a community.
“It is interesting how much good instruction is hard. Good curriculum really matters,” Lisa emphasized. “Figuring out the landscape and charting a path for others is essential for successful learning.”
Base58: Future plans
Lisa has plans for the future to further establish Base58 as an educational leader in Bitcoin. It will include launching new courses, getting non-profit status so that scholarships can be offered, and improving the online learning environment. It is our goal to build a solid structure that will allow both experienced developers and those who are new to Bitcoin to find resources and tools to help them learn and contribute to this ecosystem.
“Ideally, I want Base58 to be a place where if you have a class, you can run it here without worrying about finding students,” Lisa
explained. “Helping people get their classes put together, whether in person or online, is a key goal.”
Lisa’s efforts at Base58 and Bitcoin++ are paving the path for an educated, capable Bitcoin developer community. She is ensuring that future Bitcoin developers are well prepared to advance and build upon the protocol by focusing on structured education, innovative tools such as the Bitcoin LARP.
